0:14.0	The usual experience is you go to a bunch of classes and you're taking French or whatever in high school and you've done this so much you've worked really really hard and you spent you know hundreds of hours doing French like 200 hours in this classroom and you go to France and there's this five-year-old kid or even like this three year like four-year-old kid and their French is
0:19.3	better than yours and you're like dude you've only been speaking for two years and I've been doing four years of
0:23.4	French in college. Like this isn't fair. How is it that you can learn so much
0:28.4	faster than I can? And that kid has had so much more French than you have.
0:35.1	Because those first two years where they were completely nonverbal,
0:37.7	like that totally counted.
0:38.8	They were learning the whole time.
0:40.3	And you're spending a few hours a week in a classroom and that kid is spending all of their time in French.
0:48.0	This is with like the 100% native native native, native, native, native, native, native. This is slightly different from your
0:52.6	situation. But the normal thing is you spend your four years in college you come to
0:57.9	France you meet this five year old. The five year old has 15,000 hours of
1:00.5	exposure you've had 200 hours of
1:03.0	hours of exposure and then you're upset that this kid speaks better than you when of course they speak better than you.
1:08.4	It would be insane if they didn't speak better than you and when you control control for that and you take a kid who is verbal,
1:15.0	you take a five-year-old kid and you move them into Spain
1:17.2	and you give them 500 hours of exposure
1:18.8	and then you do the same thing with an adult.
1:21.2	The adult ends up speaking better than the kid every time.
