The average number of points scored in an NBA game is right now the highest it's been in 55 years.

The average number of points per game is 115.6.

And that's the highest since the 1979-1970 season.

Average points per game have been steadily increasing

for about 15 years, and this trend

is almost certain to continue.

Now there are a few basic reasons for this, which we could discuss.

I mean, that are just factual, like there are more possessions now because teams operate

at a faster pace.

There's the three-point culture of pace and space and

they're better players from a global talent pool running a pace and space

operation where there are multiple a shooters on the court at one time and

there are other reasons that people debate until they are blue in the face but

that's not what Ari and I are really interested in in this conversation.

Ari and I are talking about something much more primal.

The game is different.

Yes, it certainly is.

But do we like this version of the league?
