| 0:00.0 | And a good evening to you, sir, and you, ma'am, watching the Warchand Game Day postgame |
| 0:09.7 | Colin Scho. |
| 0:10.5 | It invites Luna Coffee alongside Gene Williams. |
| 0:12.8 | My name is Tom Lang. |
| 0:14.2 | And if that sounds like a professional open, it's because I think today's effort was a pretty |
| 0:17.8 | professional, solid handshake, firm handshake, no need to do |
| 0:21.1 | backflips. But Florida State is 5 and O, Gene Williams. Florida State did a lot of the things that |
| 0:26.0 | they set out to do. Was it perfect? No, but all in all, it was an easy, breezy win. And now Florida |
| 0:32.6 | State moves on after playing its ACC home opener at 5.0. Good evening, sir. |
| 1:11.4 | Good evening, Tom. You know what? They didn't cover. So that's a, that's a disappointment right there. If you did that, you just missed it by a point and a half. I think it was a 23 and a half. Is that what it? You ended up being just under 24 kickoff. Yeah, so man, you just had to hate that. I don't know. Go ahead. It's a mixed bag. I'm glad they won. They, you know, pretty close to the line about what you expected. I still, my biggest issue with this team, Tom, and why I'm going to say, and I don't think they're going to go into feed, and I hate to start in a negative connotation. They have these lapses where they go. We saw it the second quarter, and it's just, they're dominating. |
| 1:28.9 | And you can just see, it reminded me of the BC game. They just took that breath. And they're like, oh, we're dominating this team. And the next thing you know, you're going to quarter, you're completely dominated for a quarter of play. And you played well. And then you had, you know, the special teams lap start in third quarter. you know, hopefully that's something they'd clean up that was kind of ugly to see that. |
| 1:45.8 | But I mean, credit deficit FSU, they bounce back to Benson, huge Benson runs. By the way, he finished with over 200 yards rushing on 11 carries. That's a pretty good average, 18.2 per carry. That'll get it done. Yeah. So good job for Trey Benson. I imagine he might be the one breaking the rock today and well deserved for him. |
| 1:47.7 | But, you know, like I said, a mixed bag. |
| 1:48.9 | I'm glad they're able to bounce back. |
| 1:51.1 | They did what they needed to do to get the job done. But these lapses on both sides of the ball, it seems like when that flip, that switch flips, |
| 1:56.6 | and they just lose a little bit of focus on both sides. |
| 1:59.3 | And it's going to cost them against a better opponent. It's going to cost them a game at some point, Tom. I could see that. And today is one of those days. I've said this before on postgame shows, Gene, where you can pick however you want to feel. Like if you want to feel positive and say that Florida State answers some questions, you can. They finally started fast. Okay. All right. That is good. 22 to nothing. You get, I think you touch the ball four times in the quarter. That fourth possession carries over into the second, but that's way better than one possession. And three straight three and outs for that defense too. How about that? It comes out, were they perfect? No, but I mean, when you get teams to go three and out, often out the gate, I don't care if there's a miscommunication in the backhand. That's largely doing your job. It's doing what you're supposed to do. So check, check there and there. You wanted to see the running game come to life. Okay, you got an answer there. You wanted to see Gene if they changed their protocols and maybe some of the plays that they ran. And there was a new wrinkle out there today. |
| 4:14.8 | I'm not entirely certain because I don't have a coaching background or anything like that. But I believe the terminology is pin and pull. You saw Casey Rodic releasing to the left in a pole. It was a counter. It was a different type of run. I believe that's pin and pull. At any rate, a couple of big runs early for that. And then home run later in the game when Benson is running to the right for a long, long touchdown. It's Keandre Jones in the same action going the other way. So new wrinkles from Florida State and their offense. That was good to see. The referees were awful in this game. I think, Gene, that they were worth somewhere between seven and ten points. So if you did not get that cover, I think you can squarely blame two things, special teams and the officials. That's probably where you'd look, where you're coming up just a couple of points toward. But overall, if you want to feel like job well done today, I don't blame you. If you want to say, I'm not inspired by what I saw, I don't blame you. I think today is dealer's choice, Gene. Yeah, and I'm probably being too negative because, again, they went out. They did what they did. It was never, you were a little nervous points here and there when they let up and Virginia Tech got it a little bit closer. But at the end of the day, they won. It said it was a professional type job. The biggest positive to me was after that anemic performance by the rushing game, I think they rushed for 22 yards against Clemson to bounce back and finish with 282 rushing yards in this game. Thank you, Ben, for putting those stats up. I mean, that's what you want to seem. Like you said, some of those runs just to dominate and get those chunk plays over and over and over again. Obviously, a couple home runs too with Benson. And then what a great run by |
| 4:19.4 | Toa Ophelia on the goal line, riding to surfing two defenders into the end zone. That was a pretty |
| 4:23.9 | sweet play right there. I enjoyed watching that one. Okay. So intern Gabe, who helps out on the JCS side |
| 4:29.8 | and with the pregame show calls him now now rollophili. Remember, RFee three called him Tiptoefeely. Exactly. He had that play against Clemson a couple years ago. Now the Rollafeli, all right. He's done it twice. So I said, intern, I like this. I'm going to use it. But you got to credit your sources. So roll afy, very cool, a big moment for him. But it was all about Trey Benson today in that backfield. Donnie Wilson came out, the gate started well with a couple of touchdown passes. But Gene, that did not look like great injury. We will see if there's any initial news coming out of Florida State and the press conferences today. We'll keep you posted here on the WarChank Game Day Post game show, brewed up by Deluna Coffee. But that's not as the biggest downside to today, Gene. From this game to me, like you said, there's definitely a lot of things you can talk about from this game. To me, the biggest newsy thing is the long-term status of Johnny Wilson because, yeah, that left knee buckled on that play. And, man, you just hope it's a little, it's a pole or a strain or something that, you know, he's going to probably miss at least a couple weeks, and you hope it's nothing serious. Obviously, I'm guessing we get very little medical information from FSU, but I guess this is one of those situations, Tom, where they probably bring it in for an MRI. Yeah. And then in a few days, the news will leak out one way or the other. Hopefully the young man is okay because he was having a hell of a game, too. I mean, they had no, every time they go to him and I'm seeing him getting in one-on-one coverage, and I'm like, I remember I saw the head coach for Virginia Tech and trying to console the DB. |
| 6:12.3 | I'm like, man, you're the one who put up in that situation one-on-one in the end zone. There's no DBs in the country that can win that matchup. So that's on you, coach. That's not on that DB. But anyway, Johnny was having a great game. He had some hands and fingers catches today, Gene. You're always watching that with Johnny, but he was heavily involved. |
