This is it, the moment President Donald Trump met Japan's first female prime minister.

Here at al-Kasaka Palace, Sanai Takaiichi welcomed Trump with a ceremony by Japan's self-defense forces.

There was a brief awkward moment where it looked like Trump wanted to stop in front of the troops,

but Takaiichi quickly ushered him away, maybe to keep things on schedule.

Takaiichi did apologize for being late because she said she was watching Shohe Otani

and the Dodgers play in the World Series.

Now, during their opening remarks, Trump congratulated Takaiichi on making history.

And it's a great honor to be with you, especially so early in what will be, I think,

one of the greatest prime ministers.

Takaiichi also gifted Trump some golf goods, a nod to the Gulf diplomacy, trademarked by her

mentor, former Japanese Prime Minister Shenzhou Abe.

Now, the two leaders also talked about making this the golden age of the U.S.-Japan alliance.

And Trump said that anything Japan needs...

Anything I can do to help Japan, we will be there.

We are an ally at the strongest level.
