The Department of Homeland Security has officially designated January 6th

the date that Congress is set to certify the presidential election.

As a national special security event event which is the highest level

designation that the federal government can give to an event. For example the

inauguration and the Super Bowl are national special security events and I would be willing to bet that 90% of Americans were mostly unaware that electoral votes even had a certification day,

given that it's supposed to be a ceremonial formality,

because we are all supposed to agree on the basics of

counting. According to the Secret Service the designation was requested by

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and it will unlock additional federal, state, and local resources

for security.

While we are on the cooby, it looks like Attorney General Merrick Garland is too.

During an emotional 25 minute address yesterday to the Justice Department staff,

he promised that the DOJ would not be derailed in upholding the rule of law,

despite accusations and dangerous threats having spiked this year amidst the prosecutions of Donald Trump and Hunter Biden.

Garland also reiterated that the department is committed to impartiality and maintaining legal norms, at least while he's in charge.

Donald Trump said yesterday that he will not be participating in another presidential

debate with Vice President Harris. Can't say I blame him.
