The four headlines you need to know.

If you're tired of only having two choices in every election, I've got some states for you to keep an eye on.

In most elections here in America, if you're lucky, you get two choices for your state and local elections, right?

A Democrat, a Republican, and then sometimes, if they're feeling spicy, you get a third independent candidate.

Now, most of us would actually love to see more options, especially since so many Americans are tired of the two-party system.

And if that's the case with you, keep an eye on states like Colorado,

Nevada, Oregon, and Alaska, where in November, voters will decide if those state elections

will move to ranked choice voting. But what does that mean? Well, for example, if the ranked

choice voting option passes in Oregon, voters there wouldn't just

be choosing between two possible candidates. They would be ranking multiple candidates. So

you pick the one you like the most, then you pick a second option, and then even a third

option. And what happens then is when votes are counted, if a candidate doesn't get more than 50% of the popular vote on the first count, ballots are recounted.

This time eliminating the person that came in last.

And the process keeps happening until someone gets over 50% of the vote.

In theory, it gives all of us more choices and it removes the whole all or nothing dilemma that we have in our elections.

It also gives you a chance to support a third party candidate without basically throwing away your vote.
