The House of Representatives is now 11 rounds deep into voting for the speaker of the

house.

Kevin McCarthy has still yet to secure his precious.

Though to his credit, he has officially broken a 100 year record for the most failed

bids for speakers since 1923.

The next record he's chasing would be 133 rounds of voting, when it took two months to

elect a speaker in 1856, which is when it also took two months to travel like 50 miles

and potable water was a luxury.

Whatever that may imply about the Republican vision for the country, who could say.

Anyway, that's history.

But yesterday McCarthy spent the day losing five additional rounds of voting, despite making

major concessions to the 20 House members and counting, who refused to support his bid.

That includes McCarthy being willing to have his own speakership recalled if even one

member of Congress calls for that motion, which sounds like a fun two year employment

agreement if I've ever heard one.

To add insult, literally, to ego injury, since that concession, Kevin has actually lost

an additional vote.
