podcasting fix. Come, let me introduce you to the world of ancient Egypt. Let's home. In February of 1542, Spanish conquistador Francisco de Oriana found himself in a strange situation.

After marching over the Andes mountains, he had come to a very large river.

He suspected that the river was the Amazon, which poured into the Atlantic Ocean many, many miles to the east.

Oriana, like so many Spanish conquistadors, had come to the depths of the jungles in search of treasure.

And like so many early adventures, his lust for gold would quickly give way to his desire to survive.

So, Oriana was basically stranded in the middle of the jungle, and the only road available to him was the mighty river.

And thus Oriana would strike out east on one of the great treks of discovery known to man.
