Summary

For over three decades, STRIVE has tried to close this gap by helping people in low-income communities learn the skills necessary for good careers in growing, well-paying industries. STRIVE started in New York, but has now spread to 12 cities and has prepared more than 75,000 people for work and life with their faculty and state-of-the-art facilities. One of their many success stories is Roy Castro. After a rough childhood, Castro spent over 10 years of his life in jail. But when he got out, instead of going back to his old life of crime, he found a new path. With the help of STRIVE and a mentor, Roy went from selling drugs during his younger years to running an ice cream company worth millions of dollars. Roy was recently honored at STRIVE's 35th anniversary gala and that is where Fox News host Dana Perino first heard his incredible story for the first time. Since then, she has been looking for a platform to give Roy Castro's story the time it needed. Dana Perino chose The Fox News Rundown and earlier this week guest hosted a segment where she sat down with Castro. To also help tell the story, "The Daily Briefing" host spoke with STRIVE President and CEO Philip Weinberg and Roy's mentor Dina Powell McCormick, who in addition to her long public service resume, is also Managing Director and member of the Management Committee at Goldman Sachs The interview went so long, we could not fit the entire conversation into our original Fox News Rundown segment. We thought Roy Castro's story was so inspiring, we should let you hear it in its entirety. On The Fox News Rundown Extra, you will hear more about Roy Castro's troubling past and long journey to the top from some of the people who helped him and of course Roy himself.
