As official White House photographer under Ronald Reagan and then Barack Obama,

Pete Susa was an eyewitness to the unique and tremendous responsibilities of being the most

powerful person on earth. But more recently, Susa has gone from being an impartial observer of

the man in the White House to a searing commentator on the current president and the issues we face

as a country and as a people. Now his transformation from photojournalist to activist is the subject of

a new documentary titled The Way I See It. The Way I See It will open in theaters on Friday,

September 18th, followed by a premiere on MSNBC on Friday, October 9th.

And today, Pete joins me on the podcast to discuss the life of a White House photographer

and what it was like to go from being a journalist on the outside looking in

to being at the president's side all day every day.

He talks about the delicate balance between getting the shot and knowing when to back off,

what it was like to watch President Obama's two daughters grow up and to be present for

history in the making and how sometimes even he got a little choked up by the moment.
