Francis A. Donaldson III, socially prominent 25-year-old clubman, was shot to death in an apartment in the Greenhill Farms

apartment hotel, City Line and Lancaster Avenue, Lower Marion Township last night, after he had

made an unsuccessful attempt to win paternal favor in his suit for the hand of the girl

he loved.

His slayer, who later was lodged in a police cell and charged with murder, is Edward H. Allen,

23-year-old son of Horace Allen, also socially prominent. The fatal shooting took place in the Allen apartment

as the climax of a two-hour argument, during which Donaldson sought to have the elder

Allens recognize him as a suitor for the hand of his daughter Rose. Captain of Detective's

Ignatius Mullin of Lower Marion Police,

who arrested Alan and Edward Galliston Lucas, 25, who had gone to the apartment as Donaldson's

companion and in the role of peacemaker, told a graphic story of what brought about the killing. His information was obtained from the

younger Allen after more than three hours of grilling. Mullen said, Donaldson, from what I can

learn, was very much in love with Rose Allen. I also understand that the young woman was in love with him.

However, Mr. Allen and Edward Allen were opposed to the romance, and Mr. Allen did not want his daughter to see Donaldson.

Mrs. Allen, before her death last April, also voiced opposition to the romance from what I've been told.

The dead man was insistent in the suit, however. Donaldson always expressed a desire to have

Mr. Allen given permission to pay court to Miss Allen in the proper manner. He went to the Allen apartment last night with his friend, Edward Galliston Lucas,

to plead with Mr. Allen to look upon him as a favorable suitor for the hand of Miss Allen.
