Summary

We're entered into Week 12 of the NFL season. The Kansas City Chiefs are looking like a team that might not make the playoffs. And yet, no one wants to meet them in the playoffs. It seems like there are no good teams and no bad teams in the NFL. (Aside from the Browns. Calling 42!) But at this point in the season, few things are making sense. That's why we have former Kansas City Chiefs Lineman Geoff Schwartz here to tell truth from fiction. The debate gets heated on this episode of Football America!, then piping hot when Mike Fuentes says we need to replace Turkey with Carnitas for Thanksgiving. Power rankings?

0:06.0

I like football and I like ranking stuff and I really, really like ranking football stuff.

0:10.0

But power rankings?

0:12.0

Well, sir, I hate to marginalize anyone's work, but pro football already has power rankings.

0:17.0

They're called the standings.

0:18.0

And now more than ever, the negligible difference between the alleged best teams and

0:22.2

merely good ones is determined by 65-yard field goals, bad injuries, and worse officiating.

0:28.4

We don't need to further muddy the waters with opinions on who's good because it covers

0:32.3

for the ugly truth.

0:33.8

There are good teams, but zero great teams right now.

0:37.4

The best teams, by record at least, are the 9 and 2 Broncos and Patriots.

0:41.3

But if your eyes are working, you know that they and the rest of the top 10 aren't demonstrably much better, if at all, than that second group of 10 teams.

0:49.3

In a perfect world, 15 and 8 are not interchangeable, unless you're Megan Kelly. Or Roger Goodell.

0:56.5

This is, after all, the desired result of the pervasive mediocrity called parody, Roger

1:01.6

and his network partners crave. Yeah, the lack of discernible separation of quality between teams

1:06.6

is theoretically good. Close games, right? More 500-ish teams and expanded playoffs equal more

1:12.6

fan bases staying engaged for longer, which means more viewers, which means more ad revenue.

1:17.8

But if every game's a coin flip, we can sure save ourselves a lot of time and effort by literally

1:22.4

just betting on heads or tails. Consistency is good, but only some of the time. Sure, I like my red seedless grapes to be consistent enough so as to avoid the nightmare

1:31.7

that squishy one that ruins the whole experience for me.

But consistency isn't always a virtue.
