Hello from Washington.

I'm Chuck Todd, and this is the Chuck Todd cast.

So my guest today in this second full week of the new year is John Kasich.

He's the former Republican governor of Ohio, former presidential candidate, former member of Congress.

He famously declined to vote for Donald Trump in his

runs for president. Former state senator. See, he's jumping in here. He doesn't quite realize

his cue has not come forth yet. Kasek has become one of the more, had become one of the more

prominent Republican critics of sort of this mega movement, if you will.

I think a lot of that has to do with economics, and we'll talk about that a little bit.

I actually want to focus more on where his head is at, which lately has been about character,

but not character in our politicians, character in the American people.

It is Thursday, January 9th, just after the memorial service where Jimmy Carter was eulogized by President Biden, all the living presidents attended.

It's one of the few occasions where you, where politics in Washington is supposed to pause a little bit, if you will. And in the age of Trump,

just seeing all the presidents together is actually a shock, if you will.

John, I want to start with the first thing that Biden's eulogy focused on with Carter,

which was, and why Carter, while politically unpopular, and I think his

politics are still a bit unpopular for people that lived through it, his character was so,

was held in such high regard that you couldn't help but like and respect the man.

And it was sort of the, it was the, it was the theme of Biden's eulogy.
