Fish is on the White River for trout most of the time, but the river been been pretty high this season and he wanted to know how to switch over to

Fishing in still water in a lake or a pond and what was different about still water and what kind of tips did we have for fishing for bass and panfish in a

lake or pond. So I think that's a great topic. First thing you want to be aware

of is that bass and panfish aren't leader-shy, so unlike trout in a stream where you're trying to make your fly appear

unattached to anything and drifting in the in the current where you need a fairly fine leader.

In Stillwater you don't need a real fine leader because

bass and panfish just don't care about how thick your leader is and and you're

either letting the fly sit still or you or moving the fly yourself so you really don't need to worry about what

current studio leader and you can use the heaviest stuff you can get through the

eye of the fly a lot of the flies that you use for bass and panfish are kind of bulky and you want to use

a short heavy leader anyway to make them easier to cast.

So if you're going to fish for largemouth bass or panfish in a pond. This time of year during the summer,

dawn and dusk are definitely the best times to fish. Bass usually spend hot summer days

in a little bit deeper water and move into the shallows at dawn and dusk when the light's lower and the water's cooler.

Panfish are often in the shallows all day long, but they seem to respond to surface food better when the light is low.

And of course, catching either bass or any kind of panfish on surface flies
