So today we're talking about flash pulmonary edema.

We're going to start by talking about what this actually is, the pathophysiology, followed by rapid diagnosis and management in the ER.

So flash pulmonary edema sometimes referred to as escape, which stands for sympathetic, crashing, acute pulmonary edema,

and other times referred to as hypertensive heart failure is something I personally see in the ED a couple times a month.

Typically, this is defined as the rapid onset of cardiogenic pulmonary edema in the setting of hypertension.
