In a hot place, there was a cool lake. It was big and clear and surrounded by green reeds.

Along one side, there was a long mudflat dotted with pink heads. Flamingos, a flock of flamingos.

In the middle of this flock was a little flamingo with pale pink feathers named Ra.

Ra was quietly eating the little bits of delicious shrimp and algae in the mud.

She knew that something in the food she ate made her feathers and the feathers of every other flamingo turned pink.

She liked pink. It was what she had always known.

Ra dipped her curved beak into the mud again and looked up. She felt happy. Her family and friends were all around.

The golden sun was shining in the sky. It was a good day. A quiet day living in a sea of pink just like all the other days before.

Life was good.

There was a strange buzzing noise over the large rock ahead. Ra looked at her family.

They were busy eating and wouldn't notice if she left to take a peek. Would they?

With tiny, quiet steps, Ra made her way over to the rock. She looked around the marsh.

The buzzing sound was moving further away, beyond the trees. Ra took another look behind her and then began walking towards the sound.

She gently stepped over the rocks and into the sand, passed tall trees and saw a bird fly overhead.

Soon Ra found herself on the top of a hill. Below her was a lake, but it was not like any lake she had ever seen.

The water wasn't clear or blue or green. Ra was looking at a lake that was blue and green.

And purple and yellow and orange and pink and red. A rainbow lake.

Ra thought it was so beautiful and had to go look closer, completely forgetting about the buzzing.
