Good morning and thanks for joining me for Rise in Crime. Your morning caffeine hit,

All About Crime. I'm Mama Jules, and today we have a completed murder trial out of Florida that challenged the stand-your-ground law. Then we've got two topically related cases out of South

Carolina and Illinois, both involving sales between private parties and also fire. And then we're

going to finish up with another outrageous HOA controversy. So let's get into it. First, we'll head to

the completion of a trial out of Sarasota,

Florida, one where jurors were left to decide if the threat of domestic violence justified the

killing of a 24-year-old man. Brennan Wakey and Colton Wright met like most young adults meet these

days, online. And in June of 2021, when the two matched

with each other digitally, they jumped in, both feet. And Colton moved into Brennan's Sarasota

home about two months after their first official date. Brennan was just one year older than

Colton back in 2021, and his career seemed to be

thriving. He worked as a financial advisor in Florida, splitting his residential time between his

Sarasota home and his father's home in Port Charlotte. His career also led to several business trips

a year, some in the financial hub of New York City.

Now, from the outside looking in, I see this relationship as the ying to the yang.

Brennan is driven and successful.
