One of the things I learned about Leon Benson when I first spoke to him almost a year ago

was that music was absolutely central to his life.

He was a rapper, and not just an enthusiastic guy would drop a few verses now and then.

He'd secretly recorded music while in prison, managed to smuggle the recordings out, and

then collaborated with a production company called Die Jim Crow Records, which was set

up specifically to release music by prison-impacted artists.

His first album is out now, and it's powerful.

It's called Innocent Born Guilty.

Hip-hop is a big part of how Leon sees the world, and we'd always wanted listeners to

hear his music, and to hear Leon talking about his music.

We didn't feel like we had enough of that in the first nine episodes of this show.
