Summary
Andy and Brendan are back at the Beverage Boys house to react to the first day at the PGA Championship. The flushers and strikers rose to the top. They discuss how the course played in the opener, how the wind wasn’t that bad, watching the Baton Boy up close, seeing some delectable shot shapes on the back nine par-3s, rooting on a club pro friend of the program, a slow play penalty actually assessed, Bryson neglecting to yell fore!, and the 18th hole fairway backboard. There’s also some intel about a Bracelet Boy sprinting to make his tee time. The episode wraps with a story of Andy asking cops on the driving range about biker gang enrollment procedures.

| 0:00.0 | Now the shotgun's starting golf is full of mathematics, there's a lot of a lot of setup work that we have to do in order to make a tournament work, so I'm gonna demonstrate to you just exactly how we do a shotgun start here. |
| 0:13.6 | And here we go. |
| 0:17.0 | All right, all right, all right, get to men, start your engine! |
| 0:36.6 | Greetings and welcome to a Thursday edition of the shotgun start, it is May 20th, Andy, how we doing? |
| 0:42.6 | Brendan, I'm doing great, God, really love being out watching live golf in a major championship today, I was out there all day, it was just glorious, perfect weather, and it was just so fun to just watch championship golf. |
| 1:00.6 | It is, yeah, not to get like sappy, it is so good to be back on site watching a major podcast thing with you, like I don't know, I don't want to be sappy, I'm just grateful to be here, grateful to that the PJS happening, grateful that it's at Kewa, it's been a great day, been a great week so far, you know, it's just, we're gonna have some guests I think, but just you and I, we gotta turn this one around quickly, I'm cracking an athletic brewing, today's gonna, tonight's gonna be an athletic brewing, |
| 1:30.6 | tonight, I think, I'm actually, we got, we got a Smith Debra delivery last night, and I needed it, 75% of it is gone, so a little too far into the Smith Debra, and tonight, tonight's all gonna be about recovery, while still unwinding, with athletic brewing, so... |
| 1:52.6 | Shotgun Start 15, I think, is our 15% promo code off athletic brewing, it's free shipping on 12 packs, athletic brewing.com, it is the way to get that little taste, while also keeping a clear head, it has been instrumental in our sort of ability to do the balancing act over the last year. |
| 2:09.6 | This is the first time I've had the Surveys Athletica, and it is delightful. |
| 2:14.6 | It's a new one, I don't think we plan to do this ad read off the top now. |
| 2:17.6 | Now it's working, right? |
| 2:18.6 | Well, it's only gonna be a 25 minute episode, no need to talk for an hour, this is going to be moot in about eight hours, all these results. |
| 2:27.6 | The beverage boys house, that's what we are, Smith Debra athletic brewing, thank you for sponsoring Shotgun Start 15, please go out, stock your fridge with that, it is alternative and critical to have on hand. |
| 2:39.6 | Alright, I'm getting a message from Jacob Anderson, we did a Q&A on Instagram, on the Shuttle Ride home, so follow the Instagram, we're having a little bit of fun, a little jovialism on there. |
| 2:49.6 | So I heard from someone on the ground, that one half of the bracelet boys, Brian Gay, was sprinting to the tee, knocking over gates to make his tea time, wondering if you all could confirm. |
| 3:02.6 | I actually can, I can't confirm 100%, but I was on the range, as he was warming up, and I kept checking his time, and these tea boxes are far. |
| 3:13.6 | They're nowhere near the range, I actually have a piece coming out, forgot to digest on this, and that's why I was there, I was like timing these guys, and he was like six minutes before his time, I was like there's no way he's gonna make it. |
| 3:25.6 | So I don't know if he knocked over gates, but whatever he did to make it, he was huffing and puffing, he had to have bolted out of there, so that's your quick answer, live answer, Jacob, what did you think of the day? |
| 3:36.6 | It was, it was great, I just really surprised, I think the wind was almost worse than the morning than the afternoons, delightful day in the afternoon, and I think we could see, depending on how tomorrow morning is and how tomorrow afternoon is, |
| 3:51.6 | we could see a real distinct advantage to the afternoon morning wave, because the wind freshened mid-morning, but then it kind of died down, and it was, it was just, I mean, about as perfect of a day to play Kiwa Island, the ocean courses, possibly could. |
| 4:11.6 | Yeah, I know, I saw some tweets about all the winds picking up now, like it's getting windy, like it's windy out here, and like, it's never not windy at the ocean course, but like relatively speaking, it wasn't too bad, based on what I've seen in the past and this week. |
| 4:29.6 | So I think there was, this was an opportunity, now who knows, maybe it stays like that, that is kind of the status quo for the rest of the week, but I would not consider that to have been a windy day for the ocean course. |
