So the cabinet hearings have begun on Capitol Hill in earnest.

The first hearing, obviously, this week, featured Pete Hegg-Seth, my former Fox colleague

and the nominee to lead the Department of Defense.

His hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee turned into exactly the kind of

fractious display that we've come to expect from Democrat lawmakers when it comes to these

types of hearings. In desperation, they come after you from all directions, trying to find

a chink in the armor in order to advance their cause and to potentially prevent the kind of

support that you might see, typically from loyal Republicans for a nominee from a very popular

president. This is something, though, that I think was always destined

to fail on their part, in part because I think Democrats have forgotten what these hearings are for

and what they're actually designed to achieve. In advance of the hearing, Democrat staffers

spoke to Punch Bowl news outlining their plans for how they were going to treat the hearing.
