I'm Drew's co-host, entertainment writer Jim Hill, and he and I are recording the show on Monday August 26 2019 the day after

0:17.0

this year's D23 expo wrapped and Drew are you okay?

0:22.0

I'm tired. Drew, are you okay?

0:28.0

I'm tired. I was fighting off a cold the whole weekend, which was interesting,

0:36.2

but I'm here. I am ready to talk about D23 and I think this is going to be very therapeutic for both of us. Yeah okay well now folks we're going to say

0:40.9

there for the second half of the show but we have

0:43.2

quick news run down about what's happened to animation over the past week and I guess the

0:49.8

logical place to start and again this is we've been talking about this

0:54.3

Drew since the beginning of this year but we have yet another animated sequel

0:58.7

angry birds too that well in this case failed to take flight at the box office.

1:05.0

Have you looked at the numbers for this thing or?

1:08.0

Yes and they are not great and what's interesting too is that the critics really liked it a lot more than the first

1:14.4

Absolutely I mean if you go over to rotten tomatoes I want to say this thing had well the first film

1:21.6

When it came out it had a 46% audience rating and a 44 for freshness rating so you know that's that's not great

1:32.4

Whereas the sequel got a 74% freshness rating and an 85% audience rating.

1:41.0

So again, you figure with scores like that you'd actually do

1:45.6

better than the first film and it's it's actually the opposite. Before we get

1:50.9

started here today sort of was doing the comparison of the box office,

1:54.0

that right now, Angry Birds 2 is, I want to say, 27 million total for its domestic run whereas you know the original angry birds 13 days

2:08.0

into its domestic run was 74 out so the, the sequel has done 35% of the business so far of the original film.

2:19.1

And that to me is just nuts.
