This week, in an important and overlooked victory, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signed a new

set of maps for legislative districts in the state. This was actually the result of a long

struggle that dates back to the 2010s, when Republicans

engaged in some of the worst partisan gerrymandering anywhere in the country, resulting in a host

of hard right and anti-labor legislation signed by Republican Governor Scott Walker under full

GOP control. That turned Wisconsin into a nationally watched experiment in right-wing

rule. The Democratic victory in Wisconsin, however, is part of a larger story, one in which
