Well, yes. Fiji has always been one of the key strategic pivots in the Southwest Pacific.

It's the lead nation, if you like, in the Pacific Islands forum.

It's the lead country in the whole, a millenician group of peoples in that region, and of course it is strategically situated along the sea lanes from Australia to the United States and so on.

It's Fiji, the Fiji island group, which is about 320 islands, is about 1,000 miles north of New Zealand.

Since 2014, we've seen the government under the control of the former armed forces commander and Navy commander Frank Van Marama, the former naval Commodore, who's been Prime Minister since 2014.

He was allowing himself to be more and more sympathetic to Beijing and accommodating penetration, if you like, to a degree, by the PRC economically and so on in Fiji.

This would have been a major turning point, had they succeeded in that, as far as Australia, New Zealand, and the US are concerned.

His party got the most seats in the House of Representatives, but only about 45% of the vote, and 45% of the seats.
