Hey everyone, my name is Bill Kennedy and this is the Arden Labs podcast where we get to have an intimate conversation with different people in the tech community.

Probably mostly the Go community, but I'm not we're not going to isolate ourselves.

So just Go, it could be Kubernetes, could be anything related to the tech that's happening

today.

And who we have today is a really special guest for me.

A friend of mine I've known for, I don't know, almost a half a decade now, Andy, Andy Walker.

Yeah, since the first GopherCon.

Yeah, so Andy's been a gopher, since the first GopherCon, which was, what, 15, 14, 14, 15, I think.

I think the intro slide that I use, I think I say I've been using it since like R60, so like just before 1.0.

Wow. So I didn't start with Go until 1.2, which was like May of 2013 or something like that.

Actually, this is super cool. All right. So how did you even know that Go existed? Like I think we all

have that Go story. So what's your story, especially since it was pre-1? Oh, man, to be honest,

I think it was one of my coworkers. There's this one coworker that I had that I really respected

who was like me. You know, there's different kinds of priorities for engineers.

You know, some people, it's really kind of a means to an end, or they kind of drill down

on like one particular language or specialty, whereas I was, I've always been kind of like

a language nerd.

I think there's this kind of generalized, disquiet in me that I'm never quite doing things in the

most elegant way, which of course is like silly. But like I was always interested in like new

languages. I remember being into something called Iyo around then. And he and I would always

talk about like LispP and and scheme and

forth and all these other kind of esoteric languages and I think it was I think it was him
