Summary

A federal judge says that former President Trump knows his claims about voter fraud during the 2020 election were wrong but “continued to tout those numbers, both in court and to the public.” Judge David O. Carter ordered the release of the emails from John Eastman, a former Trump attorney, to House investigators and said they are “sufficiently related to and in furtherance of a conspiracy to defraud the United States.” Conservative lawyer George Conway tells Anderson Cooper why he believes this is a “smoking gun” in the Georgia investigation that’s looking at efforts by the former President and his allies to overturn the 2020 election. Plus, Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders joins AC360 to discuss the upcoming midterm elections and why he’s warning Democrats to not focus solely on the issue of abortion. Guests: George Conway, Sen. Bernie Sanders. Airdate: October 19, 2022. To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Good evening and a moment we'll be joined by Senator Bernie Sanders and discuss Democrats

0:06.1

chances in the upcoming midterm elections now less than three weeks away, but first

0:10.1

big developments in two separate investigations involving the former president.

0:14.3

One involves potential criminal liability for his conduct spreading election lies about

0:27.7

agents to conduct a new search of Mar-a-Lago.

0:30.5

Senator Murray joins us now with that story.

0:33.1

So what have you learned about this and why would they do that?

0:36.0

Well you know sources have told us that this is a consideration on the table to allow federal

0:40.0

investigators to return for some kind of supervised search so you could imagine that Trump's

0:44.1

lawyers would also be present for something like that.

0:46.9

And that's because the Justice Department has insisted to them in private discussions

0:50.9

as well as publicly in court filings that they believe that the former president still

0:55.6

has government documents even after the subpoena he was given even after the August search

1:00.6

of Mar-a-Lago.

1:01.6

So this would be a potential way to try to satisfy the government's demands.

1:06.0

There are of course people around former president Trump who don't believe he has any additional

1:10.0

documents, but the Justice Department has been very insistent that they believe that there

1:13.6

are still documents out there and that potentially Trump and his team could have run a foul of

1:18.0

this May subpoena which potentially put him in legal jeopardy.
