On March 16th, 1984, an inconspicuous man disguised with a baseball hat and dark

sunglasses, waited by a pay phone as police escorted and arrested suspect

through the Baton Rouge Airport.

As the guards passed, the disguised man quickly turned and fired a 38 caliber revolver at point-blank range into the suspect's head.

Even as the airport erupted into chaos, one voice could be heard above the screams.

Why, Gary, why?

Living in a split custody home is never ideal for a young boy.

Much of the time, children are left fatherless except on weekends.

As was the case for father, Gary Plauche. father Jody as he could be, but the boy was left without a father throughout the week.

Like many boys, Jody loved taking karate lessons each week.

In one class in 1983, Jody was introduced to his new instructor, Jeff Dauche.

Jeff became something of an authority figure in the boy's life.

He was involved in the family's day-to-day life and was well

liked by Jody's mother and father. He helped whip the boy into shape and

even helped Jody win a trophy at the Fort Worth Pro Am tournament.

It's easy to see how Jeff became the young man's best friend and trusted mentor.

The karate instructor also came from a broken family, which made it difficult for Jeff to create

friendships, and he was known as a loner. Eventually, though, Jeff became interested in his pupil, Jody, beginning to pay in an

ordinate amount of attention to the young Jody Plauche.

One day he offered to teach Jody how to drive a car.

Of course, any 10-year-old lad would leap at such an offer,

the opportunity to put a foot forward
