On August 11, 2022, 30-year-old Ashley Bocanegra received a text message from a 23-year-old man named Daniel Gonzalez.

The two were both in separate relationships, but had been secretly dating each other.

Daniel told Ashley that he was being kicked out of his apartment by his girlfriend and asked if she would

come meet him. They both lived in the same apartment complex, so Ashley left her apartment and

walked in the direction of where she was supposed to meet Daniel. 26 minutes later, Ashley arrived

back home, bloody and bruised from an attack by two women. She was on the phone

with her boyfriend asking him to come home and take her to the hospital. For several hours

after the attack, Ashley was at the hospital but believed she would recover from her injuries.

Little did she know that inside her body, the damage she had sustained was continuing to spread and the assault would soon become a murder.

Music Ashley Bocanegro was born on November 18th, 1991 in New York City. She was raised in the Bronx and had been with her partner, a man named Julian Reyes, for

about three years before they had a son together.

They had known each other since the eighth grade, and Julian said he had a crush on her, but

he was too nervous to talk to her in school.

It wasn't until 10 years later in 2012 that they reconnected on social media.

They were soon a couple and had their son while still living in the Bronx.

Around that time, Julian's parents had moved to Georgia,

and it was while visiting them that he started wanting to also get out of the city to someplace

quieter and ultimately more safe. So in 2021, they took their seven-year-old and moved to Beaufort

about 35 miles or 56 kilometers northeast of downtown Atlanta,

Georgia. They found an apartment in a gated community and though Julian said he made enough

to support the family, Ashley wanted to work as well so she got a job at a flooring store nearby.
