I've been fat my whole life and I've also been happy and confident and self-assured my whole life and I've always had this niggling, I had always had this niggling thought in my head that like there wasn't anything wrong with me. Even though, you know, I grew up obviously in the fat-hitting culture we all live in, I grew up with a mother

who died constantly and who put me on diets really early ages.

I spent a lot of time at war with my body,

the first 25, 27 years of my life.

But I still always had that kind of thought

that like, there's nothing wrong with me.

So when I talk about coming out as fat, what I mean is embracing that part of my identity, not shying away from it, and refusing to be ashamed for it.

It gets better because it has to get better.

We're all made of human.

She is more or less the only fat activist in New Zealand.

She's a scholar. She's a scientist. A scientist, is that the right word?

Probably not. She's something, something clever.

And she's just, she's done so much for the fat activism
