Today we would like to talk about the immigration pact that the European Parliament voted on this week.

And what this says about the far right in Europe.

Zosanna, you wrote about the story this week. It passed narrowly. Some of the

chapters passed narrowly. What does it tell us? This pact was been in the making for the last 10

years. It was the reform of the Dublin Pact. It was only agreed last year, the Council and the European

Parliament found a compromise. Now, this was due to a vote this Wednesday, and

surprise, surprise, the backing was no longer as assured as it was, as it seemed last year. So the

rapporteurs had parties, they had difficulties to actually get everyone on board. In the forefront,

it was the far right, the usual suspects,

the far right, for whom the pact would not go strong enough to deter migrants to come to Europe.

For the people on the left and some of the Greens, it went too far to restrict the rights

of the migrants by putting them in the centres until it was decided where they

would go.

So some of the things were uncontroversial, for example, when the migrants arrived, how they

are registered, that there will be databases that would be shared.

All these ones were uncontroversial and there was a huge majority of over 400 votes in favor

of that.

But more controversial was the burden sharing and the more tricky bits of asylum and building these centers.

There the majorities was only 50 votes and only because the three biggest groups in the parliamentary, the EPP, the S&E and Renew was holding the grounds.

This was a package.

It had, there were 10 votes in total, I think.
