1:15.3 | This one's from Simon Thompson and it's entitled Sergeant Tom. Shortly before he died my mum's partner related to me the following story. |
1:20.3 | Sergeant Tom was in the RESC during the Second World War. |
1:24.1 | He was a driver, not a common skill set in rural East Yorkshire before the war, |
1:28.4 | and upon being drafted into the RASC, he quickly rose up the ranks to Sergeant. Tom's unit was |

1:38.8 | North Yorkshire Moors, and Tom's job was driving scammal fuel trucks. Just before the 6th of June, the armour moved south and Tom and his drivers with them. |
1:47.5 | About the 7th or 8th of June, Tom drove his truck off the landing ship and up the beach |
1:52.4 | and began the long slog to Lunenburg Heath. |
1:55.7 | We are now somewhere in Belgium and the tanks are parked up for the night. |
