So let's get straight in.

Let's start by talking about a condition called blephoritis.

And blephoritis is inflammation of the eyelid margins.

And it causes a gritty, itchy, dry sensation in the eyes, and it can be associated with

dysfunction of the mybomian glands, which are the glands that are responsible for secreting

oils onto the surface of the eye. Blatheritis can lead to styes and to chalasians.

Management of blephoritis is with hot compresses and gentle cleaning of the

eyelid margins to remove any debris and they can be cleaned with cotton wool dipped in sterilized

water and baby shampoo. Lubricating eye drops can be used to help relieve symptoms and some

examples of lubricating eye drops are hypermelo's drops which are the least viscous

and the effects of these last about 10 minutes.

Polyvinyl alcohol drops are the middle viscous choice

and it's worth starting with these generally

and carbamere drops are the most viscous and last 30 to 60 minutes.

base of the eyelashes and the glands of zis are sebaceous glands at the base of the eyelashes.

Astai causes a tender red lump along the eyelid and it may contain pus. Aureoleum internum is infection of the mybomian glands and these are deeper and they tend to be

more painful than they may point inwards towards the eye underneath the eyelid.
