Summary

As the President and his campaign work to convince Democrats he’s fit enough for a second term, Republicans continue to seek more examples of Biden’s age-related fumbles and cognitive decline. House GOP members have even filed a lawsuit to compel the Justice Department to turn over audio tapes of President Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur, who led the Biden classified document investigation. Hur caused a firestorm when he wound up deciding not to recommend charges because he believed a jury would be sympathetic to Biden because he came off as an elderly man with a poor memory. Attorney General Merrick Garland’s refusal to comply sparked a political fight, and the House Republicans voted to hold him in contempt. However, this is far from the first time the legislative branch has butted heads with the DOJ. Recently, FOX News host and former Republican South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy joined host Dave Anthony to weigh in on the legal fight over the Hur tapes and how it compares to past political standoffs. Gowdy discussed his experience in Congress working on the Benghazi and Fast and Furious investigations and the challenges lawmakers have always faced when trying to hold the executive branch accountable. He also commented on the Supreme Court’s recent Trump immunity ruling and expressed his broader concern over how politics is ruining the justice system. The conversation was long, and we could not include all of it in our original FOX News Rundown segment. On the FOX News Rundown Extra, you will hear our entire conversation with Trey Gowdy and hear more of his unique takes on the current political clashes and the ones he experienced firsthand.
