Elliott Butler, who specializes in international and comparative law, focusing principally on Russia.

We're going to talk to him about the Russian legal system and the implications of Brittany being

detained at this time as Russia is in the midst of invading Ukraine.

We're also going to talk to Dr. Courtney Cox, who is an assistant professor in the indigenous

race and ethnic studies department at the University of Oregon and who studied the environment

that WMBA players experience when they play abroad. They are both incredibly insightful conversations,

Okay, so we are about to talk to Professor Butler and Dr. Cox, but first, here's what we know about the situation.

Over a month ago, Brittany Griner was detained in Russia on drug charges.

The Russian Federal Customs Service said that its officials found a vape cartridge that contained hashish oil in her luggage

after she arrived in the airport near Moscow. And hash oil is basically concentrated THC, so essentially

they found a cartridge intended for a weed pen. And like we said earlier, this was in February,

meaning Brittany has been in the custody of the Russian government for over a month.

In case you're not aware of why Brittany was even in Russia in the first place, she is there

playing overseas during the WMBA offseason with UMMC in Canterberg.
