1:00.0 | Hey guys, welcome back. We're on day two of our Summer of Scripture. |
1:05.0 | And today we are in the book of Exodus. The verse today is Exodus 20. Verse 14 it says this, |
1:10.0 | you must not commit adultery. Plain and simple. And this is something that we talked about a little bit on the podcast, |
1:17.0 | but I love just bringing the scripture to it. And I think that most of us we can agree like yes, we're not supposed to cheat on each other. |
1:23.0 | Like those marriage vows mean something. But I think that it goes even deeper than that. Because Jesus, when Jesus comes along later on, okay. |
1:30.0 | We know that he not only takes the truth of scripture in the Old Testament, but then he adds to it. |
1:35.0 | He never diminishes God's truth. He adds to it. And he says to even look at a woman or a man with lust is the same as committing adultery. |
1:43.0 | And so let's talk about that, sweetie. |
1:45.0 | It is like the standard that he came to really illuminate illuminate that the principle behind this law is that we must not only be physical, physically monogamous. |
1:54.0 | We must be mentally monogamous. And we live in a world where that's just so revolutionary. |
2:00.0 | Because people think I can do whatever I want in my thoughts. I can look at whatever I want. It's just entertainment. It's harmless. |
2:06.0 | But this is why things like pornography, things like lust, even just checking out other people, like letting your eyes linger on somebody who's not your spouse. |
2:15.0 | And then playing out fantasies in your head with those thoughts. It's so damaging because it gets to the heart of it goes against really the heart of what got intended marriage and sex to be. |
2:27.0 | He wants us to be fully mind, body and soul committed to one another. And if we're not, if we're letting our minds, our thoughts and our actions wander toward other people and toward other things, then really we're committing an active infidelity. |
