Since we recorded this podcast, we broke a big story on the athletic that Arsenal midfielder Mateo Guandousie has not trained with the first

team since their defeat at Brighton more than two weeks ago. The athletic has learned that

head coach Mick L'Artetta has instructed Guendousie to work alone with a fitness coach

after encountering problems with the player's attitude and general conduct.

Now this is a story I've worked on with my colleague James McNichlis.

He and I actually spoke about Guendousie on this very podcast a couple of weeks ago.

And the issues date back to his time in France, in fact, when he was with L'Orianne and despite very promising signs after he joined

Arsenal in 2018 they seemed to have continued at the Emirates Stadium. There were problems

on Arsenal's warm weather training camp during the winter break in Dubai,

where he had to be disciplined by Arteta and by Arsenal's technical director Edu, and we wrote about that in my column at the time.

And then fast forward to the Brighton game.

He had an altercation with Mopay at full time and had to be escorted off the pitch by a member of the coaching staff.
