This is the story of Nick Gothier. He was an all-American man who did his best to take care of his family.

To take care of those around him until he came upon a TDAP vaccine. This is Nick's story.

Throughout my life I never liked to sit down. I was always on the go playing sports, working with my hands.

When I was about 19 years old, I joined a fire department. I was a firefighter for about six years.

I was selected to go to a mission in Mexico, fitting people with hearing aids.

I fell in love with it. I remember a grandmother being able to hear a grandchild for the first time and just beginning to ball.

I was hooked at that point.

I did a rotation at a veteran's hospital and I became interested in hearing loss related to firearms.

I decided to work at Fort Hood, Texas within their medical hospital.

I was thrilled to get the job, but in order to take the position, I moved my family across the country.

When we arrived in Texas about six months ago, I felt just on top of the world. It was just perfect.

Nick had his dream job. He was so happy. He'd come home from work and we'd get in the pool with the kids every night.

On the weekends, we were going out to the local lakes. We were going hiking with the kids.

We had a good show.

About a month into my job, I had to do my final step of in-processing, which was my physical evaluation.

I went back into a room with a nurse. She asked me some questions, went over my case history,

and she actually noted that I was one of the healthiest people she's ever seen going through this process.

I was fully immunized when I started my position at Fort Hood.

I had a fax down all of my newsation records. However, that was a separate department than who was doing my physical.

When the nurse told me I had to get a TDA, I was slightly hesitant, but it was part of the job.
