Summary

2011-01-12 - The flag of trance is identifying as a separate, deficient self. This talk explores how developmentally we can get fixated on fears and unmet needs and cut off from the wholeness of Being that is our true nature. We explore the power of mindfulness --seeking not to change but to understand--and the expression of that understanding as love. The talk includes guided reflections that can help us recognize and awaken from the confines of trance. Please support this podcast by donating at www.tarabrach.com or www.imcw.org. Thank you!

You're in some way in a narrowed version of reality that's somewhat distorted.

1:08.2

And there's a fixation going on.

1:10.2

The mind is fixated in some pure-based way, and then it plays out in how you're thinking

1:16.8

and feeling and behaving.

1:18.6

That's trance.

1:19.8

The mind has contracted.

1:22.7

When we're in trance, we're fixated basically on something's going to go wrong.

1:27.6

The sense that something is about to go wrong or already going wrong, it's the flip side

1:34.5

of that, which is something's missing.

1:36.0

Like right now, it's not full or complete or okay.

1:39.9

Those are the two versions that the Buddha described eloquently in terms of grasping

1:45.0

in a version.

1:47.2

So what happens is that because we're feeling something's wrong or missing, we're in control

1:53.1

mode.
