In a society and a land where people did not know how to read,

Ibn S'iad in its Tabakath reports that there were probably 15 people in Mecca that could read and write.

And Mecca had a population of roughly 3,000.

You do the math, that is 0.5% literacy rate of Arabia in a land where there was not a single

school in a country or a region that did not have a library. There was no library in that entire Arabian Peninsula.

Allah Suhana Wataata chooses to send down the final book upon the final messenger and he begins the revelation of that book with a word that we have all

memorized I kara and our prophet, Allah O'Alah he was

is terrified and shocked.

He's confused and agitated.

What do you mean?

I don't know how to read.

How would I know how to read?

What's education was there? There's no madrasa for me to learn. No child is taught how to read and write. How do you expect me to read?
