The DOJ has opened a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

The federal probe centers on Powell's testimony regarding the renovations at the Federal Reserve

building, which have gone way over budget.

Powell confirmed the probe last night, accusing the Trump administration of using the threat

of prosecution to pressure the central bank

into lowering interest rates. He called the investigation an unprecedented challenge to the Fed's

independence, insisting monetary policy must be guided by economic conditions, not political demands.
