The government shutdown is in day six.

Are lawmakers any closer to a deal to reopen the government?

The longer this goes on, the more likely it is that you're going to see the White House take

steps that make this shutdown very real in the sense of layoffs and the sense of government

services that are no longer going to be funded or no longer going to operate.

This is the Fox News R rundown, evening edition.

It's day six of the government shutdown, and with lawmakers dug in and not budging,

concerns are growing about the shutdown showdown dragging on. The White House has warned

of thousands of federal employee layoffs

if the government isn't reopened in the near future, but Democrats have held firm on health

care provisions being included in order to get their votes on a stopgat measure that would

extend government funding until November. The White House is deferring an awful lot of these

negotiations to Congress.
