Major baseball news, Rob Manfred is officially removing Pete Rose and Shulis Joe Jackson from the permanently ineligible list.

So this is huge breaking news. What are the other details that are emerging from this?

Okay. So, Commissioner Rob Manfred has issued a pretty lengthy statement. So I'm just going to try to give you some bullet points here.

Pete Rose had hired and his family, I'm sorry, Pete Rose, the late Pete Rose, his family

had hired a lawyer that kind of petitioned Major League Baseball and Rob Manfred, not

kind of they did.

Commissioner Manfred has concluded that Major League Baseball's policy shall be that

permanent ineligibility ends upon the passing of said disciplined individual.

So in other words, going forward, if anybody else is banned permanently by Major League Baseball,

that permanent band ends with the passing.

So after death.

Now, the reason for that, this was in a letter, the attorney for Mr. Rose, Commissioner Manfred wrote, in my view, a determination must be made regarding how the phrase permanently ineligible should be interpreted in light of the purposes and policies behind Rule 21. So the essential part was it was to protect the game from individuals who pose a risk to the integrity of the sport by prohibiting the participation of such individuals and create a deterrent effective that reduces the likelihood of future violations by others.

In Commissioner Madfrey's view, once an individual has passed away, the purpose of that rule has been served.

That person obviously no longer can represent a threat to the integrity of the game because

they're dead.

That's interesting.

Basically what he's saying is that Pete Rose, when he was alive, still presented a threat

because he could gamble on baseball.

Right, you let him back in.

If he gets reinstated and he starts gambling on games or

with the proliferation of gambling websites, obviously somebody would have taken advantage

of that and Pete Rhodes would have as well and probably been paid handsomely and not necessarily
