Hello and welcome to another MBEX podcast. I'm Sam Wilkin, Brussels news editor, and today

0:16.3

we're going to talk about Europe's response to big US tariffs imposed recently of 25% on steel and 10%

0:23.1

on aluminium. The EU is pitching for an exemption, but how likely is it to succeed and

1:31.3

It plans to impose extra tariffs on around 200 US products of an estimated value of around

1:41.3

4 billion euros.

1:43.3

The EU is also planning to challenge the US measures at the WTO, the World Trade Organization,

1:50.0

in cooperation with possibly other WTO members.

1:54.3

And it is also planning to impose its own safeguards to block possible imports of steel and aluminium, which could be

2:05.5

redirected from the US.

2:07.6

Okay, so we've got a sort of direct retaliation.
