And I welcome Antonio Kalabashanu,

an analyst for Geopolitical Futures a subscription site, a column identifying three major challenges

that do not have easy answers here in 2024. The first is China. China is an adversary

of the United States and geopolitics and then it's a trading partner with the

United States and with the European Union.

So what is to be done about a regime that exists upon emphasizing security and

surveillance and making repeated threats against Taiwan, the people of Taiwan, at the same time needful of foreign

investment, much of which has left China in these last years because of the belligerence

of the regime.

The Chinese model is a puzzle for the United States and more so for the European Union that is aware of China's aggression towards its neighborhood,

but at the same time regards China as a manageable trading partner in some fashion.
