Welcome to Judy Dempsey of the Carnegie and Down for International Peace,

who is the editor-in-chief of Strategic Europe,

and a columnist for Strategic Europe,

now writing about European Defence. There is the EU 27 nations. There is NATO

32 nations. They're not exactly the same, but they're close. Defense from what? From the threat from the east that

would be the Russian Federation once known as the Soviet Empire and the country

that I listened to most closely is the one that's had the worst time for several hundred years.

That would be Poland.

And Judy features Radislav Sikorsky, the defense minister from 2005 to 2007.

And Mr Sikorsky's remarks recently remind all of us that what was imagined at the beginning of the century

is now a fact on the day that Vladimir Putin is sworn in again as president of the Russian Federation within 48 hours of

celebrating again the great patriotic war victory which was not possible without the sacrifices of all the other nations of

Europe, the United States, and again, I remind everyone, justice has not been served for what the Soviets vouchsafed done to the Warsaw

rising and the people of Poland as that army swept to the west to Berlin using equipment from the US. The injustice towards the

poles is monumental. So I have a keen ear for where they are here in 2024.
