Hello, I'm Juliet Farrington and I'm Haley McCoyne. Welcome back to the essential Euros, the

podcast covering the major talking points from Euro 2024. And on the day when

Portugal opened their account, a chance to hear from the English coach working with

Roberta Martinez and Christiana Ronaldo to possibly Euro's success. Juliet, you've been speaking to

Anthony Barry. So yeah, tell us about him.

Yeah, he's not very old. He's worked closely alongside Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea and at Bayern Munich, as well as Roberto Martinez with Belgium and now Portugal. He started his

coaching journey in his 20s, started with the Appleton under 16s, and then moved to Wigan,

worked with Paul Cook there, headed to Chelsea, worked with Ireland, then he went to Bayern Munich

with Tuchel after he left his job at Chelsea, working with then Roberto Martinez with Belgium,

and now onto Portugal. So he's got plenty of experience, worked with so many elite players.

Players are often older than him as well.

He's that young, but it's been quite some eight years for him.

My career accelerated at a speed that nobody would have imagined, I would say.

But from the age of 30, when I became a 13 coach, it was pretty young to start.

It was, I was at that period of my football career where everybody says, continue playing,

play as long as you can. But for me, my career, my football career, being blighted with injuries.

It was a career at the lower level. And it's a clear that I reflect on now, and it's not

something that I

enjoyed so much and I took a huge injury at the age of 24 and on that day that that year
