You're watching you on ESPN all these years. I just figured you were a real something or like from Georgia or something.

Yeah, it's funny, man. People first of all cracks me up. People think my accent's fake. That's always funny. It's funny. Yeah, it's great in broadcast journalism to sound like this.

That's definitely beneficial young people towards your journalistic career. But yeah, man, grew up in Appalachia down there about 30 miles west of Blacksburg in

Jiles County. And I am very, very, very proud to be from the Commonwealth. Yeah, Marty, you tell people you're from Virginia, but some people might be like, oh, like

Northern Virginia, like Fairfax. It's way different. It's a different world. You're from, right?

It's like y'all don't understand, man, where I grew up rolling though, it's like Manhattan.

Yeah.

In the Vatican in DC, I mean, it's a different world for sure. Hey, Marty, so I'm very familiar with the area. My two daughters. I had

one graduate from tech last spring, and I've got a junior tech. So I'm actually going to Blacksburg. I'm going to Blacksburg this weekend to go

probably see him lose the pit. But what did you apply to tech? Well, you went to Rafford, but did you want to go to Virginia Tech?

No, I was I was a black sheep of the family. My whole family went to Virginia Tech, except for me. I was kind of chasing ball. I first went in East Tennessee.

I went to a little D2 school called Carson Newman played middle infield there and then transferred over to Rafford and got my degree from there.

And it was funny guys playing how God works. I just when I transferred over to Rafford, I just assumed I would just assimilate straight into the baseball team at

Rafford, but I tried out for the team did not make the team. And it's funny how when I don't care if you your last high school football game is your last game or your

Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, play 20 years and go out on your terms. There is a substantial void in your life.

And that competitive void was very hard for me. But then one day I walked into the sports information office at Rafford, met a guy named Mike Ashley.

Y'all may know Mikey Cobber's Maryland basketball all the time. And Mike was the SID at the time. And I was just like, man, I need purpose.

You don't need to pay me. I'll do whatever you want. And of course he was starved for help. And that sort of set me on my path to talking to you right now.

So it's funny how the Lord closes the door and opens another door. And because of that, I mean, I met my wife. I met my best friends and had such a rich college experience because I lost ball.
