I'm your host Matt Smith and with me as always is Dr. Rianen Evans, a senior lecturer in ancient Mediterranean studies at

Latreib University.

This is episode LXII, juvenile.

Juvenile was a poet from the silver age of Latin literature and was one of the last and greatest

satirical poets of the Roman Empire. He wrote five books and collectively they're known as

the satires. They can be a brutal

critique of life in ancient Rome, but his use of comedic expression and his

tendency to exaggerate things has made interpreting them a field of debate.
