In today's study, Chuck completes his teaching on the book of Josea, chapters 10 and 11.

Yeah. and 11. Out of Egypt, have I called my son.

See, when we get to first one, we get into the chapter, when Israel was a child,

I loved him, and I called my son out of Egypt.

He's referring to Israel as a nation as a firstborn, idiomatically as a firstborn. And it's, you know, he's going to talk about that.

But Matthew applies this to Jesus himself. See, this is where you get the idea that,

rabbinically speaking, the Jewish hermeneutic is that pattern is prophetic.

We see that in Exodus 4, verse 22, where Israel is spoken of nationally as God's son.

Israel is God's firstborn son.

The nation is.

It's idiomatically spoken to that way in Exodus chapter 4, in Jeremiah 31, and the book of Romans chapter 9, verse 4 and 5.

All through Isaiah, the thought shifts between the nation and the Messiah back and forth.

Chapter 41, verse 8, Abraham was a friend of God, and Israel spoken of as if the nation was

an individual. Here, Israel, my servant, it says. Isaiah 42, Spirit upon him. Subject changed

no longer referring to the nation, but now it's clearly talking about the Messiah. It's shifting

back and forth. Isaiah 50 through 13, all the way through the 53 chapter, the Jews insist upon saying that refers

only to the nation.

If you read it, that's silly, because it's clearly a person.

There's a description of the last week of Christ that's so great, it's as graphic as all Paul's epistles put together.
