Summary

On today's episode, Dennis speaks with Founder of The Dad Edge and Author, Larry Hagner.

Larry's BIO:

Hey guys, I’m Larry, founder of The Dad Edge.

Half of my childhood without a father figure in my life and the other half with toxic father figures that came and went.  I made one decision as a young boy, and it was that my kids would know who their father was.  I knew firsthand, the devastating effects of growing up without a positive father figure in my life.

When I became a father for the first time in 2006, it became clear that I didn’t have the skills to be the best for my sons.  I was short on patience.  I was quick to anger.  My marriage was mediocre at best.

I learned quickly that the desire to be a legendary father, man, and husband wasn’t enough.  I had to learn the skills to actually do it.

Our children are not born with manuals and the Journey of Fatherhood doesn’t necessarily come with a “map.”

There are challenges, twists, and turns along the way.

As much as we truly enjoy our children and being a father, we tend to internalize our struggles.  When we do that, we get distracted and stressed out.  As a result, we do not enjoy the journey of being a dad and husband as much as we would really like to.

I finally decided in 2015, to start The Dad Edge Podcast and learn the skills from experts to live a legendary life as a husband, father, and man.

Over the past 6 years, I have interviewed over 700 experts on:  parenting, mindset, patience, communication, intimacy, optimizing health, and the power of community.

I am the proud father of 4 energetic boys.  The husband of my soul mate, Jessica for the past 18 years.  Life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows every day.  However, I learned skills to optimize my life as a man, husband, and father.  If you are a lifelong learner and you don’t have this thing figured out…join me and let’s continue to learn together!

Live Legendary!

Today, Dennis and Larry discuss his mission behind "The Dad Edge" brand, his story and core values as a father and as a husband, learning how to connect with your partner, the strengths you need to have a successful relationship, the truth about love, his relationship with his dad who left his family when he was only 10 years old, finding closer and grace and why forgiveness is a gift.

I give my dad grace and forgiveness because I think as a human being when he was 35 years old and he was trying to start his life over and had a two year old son and another one on the way he was probably like holy shit like what have I got myself into here? Maybe that was his line of thinking.
