Summary

In the Bible, the prophet Nathan used a story about lambs to help King David recognize his errors with Bathsheba. Why did he take that approach rather than being direct? 0:07.4	I want to kick off this episode with a story that most of you know all too well.
0:12.1	It's the story of David, Bathsheba, and her husband, Yeraya.
0:16.6	Although King David had many wives, he lusted after Yeraya's wife, Bathsheba.
0:23.0	And after committing adultery with her, David then arranged to have Bathsheba's husband,
0:27.4	Yeraya, killed so that David could marry Bathsheba.
0:31.6	The writer of Second Samuel says very plainly, but obviously, quote,
0:36.4	the thing that David had done displeased the Lord end of quote.
0:41.2	As such, the Lord sent his prophet Nathan to David to reprimand him.
0:46.6	Now if you were Nathan, how would you approach this discussion?
0:52.1	Well Nathan decides to do something a bit curious to me.
0:56.9	Instead of directly coming to David with what the Lord had revealed to him,
1:00.9	Nathan decides to address the situation by telling David a story.
1:05.6	Specifically, a story about a man with a lot of lambs, and another one who has only one.

1:16.4	Ducky.
1:17.4	I'll read you the actual scriptural account from the NIV in Second Samuel 12, here it is.
1:23.8	There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor.
1:27.8	The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had nothing
1:32.8	except one little U-lam he had bought.
1:35.5	He raised it and it grew up with him and his children.
